Chinese-Brand Trade-Ins — What to Watch For in the Workshop
Seeing more BYD and other Chinese brands on forecourts? Here’s our mechanic Grant’s honest take.
These cars can offer attractive monthly payments and strong tech, but the long-term picture is still uncertain.
Key points from Grant:
Build quality: Improving, but inconsistent across models
Parts & repairs: Availability and lead times can be unpredictable
Warranty: Check who backs it and how claims are handled
Resale value: The biggest unknown — future demand is hard to predict
Bottom line:
Chinese-brand cars may look cost-effective now, but future value, repair support and long-term reliability should be considered just as carefully as the monthly payment.
Be very careful in your decision, more recognised brands is my recomendation as parts are easier to come by and mean we know most things about the other cars.
